What is the project?

I firmly believe that we as humans are capable of so much more than we actually produce. One of the reasons for our not reaching our potential is that society spreads the lie that it is not possible to reach our dreams. My life's desire is to eradicate this lie and help everyone see that their goals can be attained.
The goal of this project is to discuss literature, movies and music that show people reaching their potential by proving society wrong. I hope that many will contribute and share the things that have inspired them to go after their dreams.
I hope to assemble a list of pieces that I want to use for a more extensive project later. Please be open and share freely. Thank you all.

Okay...so I didn't read the whole thing...an inspiring movie? A Beautiful Mind...he found his inner strength and became what no one thought he would, reaching his dream.

I think that this is a great idea. We all need a list of good forms of reading, music, movies, etc. Good things are hard to find.
One of my favorite books that has helped me alot is called "Lighten Up" by Cheiko Okasaki. It has helped me to be happier and a much more fun person. I always took everthing to seriously. It gave me a different image of myself

Hey T.K. Hawkle! Nice to see your still around! I have a book and a movie to add:

The movie Willow has long been my favorite movie. In addition to fun action sequences, witty dialogue, and outstanding acting, the story follows Willow, a Nelwyn (Nelwyn are Midgets, for lack of a more appropriate term). Willow is even small for a Nelwyn, and despite ridicule from his own people, and derision from the outside world because of his stature ("Out of the road, Peck!") Willow preserveres and overcomes the odds by defeating the Evil Sorceress and her army.

(interestingly enough, Lord of the Rings follows a similiar road. The main heroes are Hobbits, small creatures that don't appear to be exceptionally strong or talented, but in the end, the willpower and fortitude of these little guys save the entire world and defeat the evil Sauron and Sarumon.)

The book I would reccomend to anyone is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It is kind of difficult to read and, at times, understand, but one of the key premises in the book is the human spirit and what man is able to achieve. Truly an amazing book!

One of my favorite books of all time is The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino. I actually read it pretty recently and was so inspired. I think it's a book that I'm going to read once a year from now on. The boy in the book is a stable boy aspiring to be a salesman. He is motivated by a girl he meets that he would like to marry. But he won't be able to seek her hand as a lowly stable boy. He talks to a successful salesman who gives him a task to try out his skills as a salesman. He is so motivated by his longing for the girl he is sure he'll accomplish the task in no time. But things work out differently. I don't want to spoil the rest, but I believe everyone should read it! It's an amazing book about reaching your potential and it can also help us better our everyday lives.

Who doesn't love a good sports movie? Well, my favorite in that genre is Invincible. It's based on the true story of Vince Papale who went to open try-outs for the Eagles. He hadn't even played college ball. Many people, including his wife, showed no encouragement. They didn't think there was any way he would make the team. But he went for his dream. It's such a good movie with such a great message. It shows that we don't need to hold back, we can just try our best to live our dreams and those dreams just might come true.
